"This is a list of the genealogies of American families, published in book or pamphlet form, with date of publication. Most of these works that are of early date are now very rare. Copies of them are in most public libraries in the larger cities of the United States and in the libraries of historical societies. Copies also find their way, in very small number, into book auction sales and into the hands of dealers in second-hand books. Genealogies of recent date are generally procurable from the publishers." This portion of the list covers surnames Alexander to Allen.
