Newsletters for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Mackan (and variant spellings) families in America. Focus is mainly on descendants of John Mackan, who immigrated to America, and settled in the lower part of the James River Valley in Virginia on 14 August 1652. One descendant, James Mackan married Cassandra Warwick in 1742, and then in 1762, he married Mary Maderias (or Madieras). James and Mary were wed at Christ Church in Middlesex County, Virginia. Children of James were: Henry, Phillip, Jane, Elizabeth, John, James, Thomas, and Rachel. Some descendants remained for several generations in Essex, Gloucester, and Middlesex counties, Virginia. James, his brothers, and his sons helped establish the new Baptist religion in Virginia during the late 1700s. One grandson, Robert helped establish public schools in Virginia in the 1830s. Robert moved to eastern Texas in the 1850s. Robert's grandson, Richard introduced Aberdeen Angus cattle into the state of Texas. Later descendants also lived in Egpyt, Mexico, and in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and elsewhere. Information is primarily births, marriages, deaths, and updates about the clan members. Some newspaper articles about family members and the family's history are also included. Years covered are from 1652 to 1977.

Some information (taken from a newspaper article) is about George H. Yewell (1830-1923), who was born in Maryland, and came with his pioneer parents to Iowa City in 1841. George later became a reknowned artist.

The August 1962 issue includes a partial family tree of the Clan Mackan prepared by George C. MacKann, Jr. on 21 December 1946, and a transcript of the will of Thomas MacKan dated 8 August 1730. The will mentions the names of his heirs, some of his slaves, and his friends.
