Newsletter for the interchange of genealogical data and history of the Porter families who came mainly from England, Ireland, and Scotland. Some immigrated first to Canada, and then to the United States of America. In the early 1600s, some immigrated to Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Virginia (especially Jamestown). In the 1700s, some settled in Kentucky, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Vermont. In 1784, some Porters settled at Mossy Creek in Augusta County, Virginia, and built the historic Nimrod Hall. Around 1832, other Porters settled in Aroostock County, Maine where they established another historic "Porter homestead." During the 1800s, some moved to New Brunswick (Canada), Cuba, France, Turkey, and to Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington D.C. Later descendants also lived in Arizona, California, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, and elsewhere. Information was extracted from Bible, birth records, biographies, cemetery inscriptions, church records, death records, deeds, immigration records, land records, marriage records, probate records, wills, shared genealogies, and other published indexes and registers. Dates covered are from the 1500s to the present.
