FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Centre, a branch facility of the Family History Library.


The Red Deer Family History Centre is open to the public and all services are free of charge. Whether you are just starting to trace your roots or looking to access our extensive resources, our volunteer staff are available to help. Everyone is welcome.

Please note that due to COVID-19, the Center is currently CLOSED until further notice. Please text or phone 587-877-6655 for more information or help.

Regular hours: Tuesday 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. & 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

  • Family History Center Portal This centre has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the centre to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions, such as:
    • Ancestry Institution Version
    • 19th Century British Library Newspaper Digital Archive
    • ArkivDigital Online -- Swedish genealogy
    • Findmypast -- 1.7 billion international family history records from the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and beyond with records going back to 1200. New collections are added every month,
    • Fold3.com -- Convenient access to US military records, including the stories, photos, and personal documents of the men and women who served.
    • Puzzilla Premium
    • and more.

Hardware and Equipment[edit | edit source]

    • 7 desktop computers with FamilySearch internet access and premium sites through FHC Portal
    • Ports for laptop connectivity to Family History Center Portal resources. Patrons may bring their own laptops for note-taking or entering information into personal genealogical programs, with the disclaimer that the owner is responsible for the security of the device.
    • Printer, Scanner, Copier
    • 1 microfiche reader and 2 overhead microfilm readers (please phone ahead to confirm they are in working order)
