Description[edit | edit source]
Montgomery County was named for John Montgomery, a soldier in the American Revolutionary War and an early settler who founded the city of Clarksville. The county is located in the north-central area of the state.[2]

Additional Information
Middle Tennessee county established in 1796. The eastern half of the county belonged to the pioneer Cumberland Settlements.[12]
The county is named after "John Montgomery (c. 1750-1794), leader of the Nickajack Expedition."[13]

On their website, users can bring up a list of land entries issued in Montgomery County, both before and after its land became a part of the state of Tennessee. Years covered: 1785-1802.
