Description[edit | edit source]
Lee County may have been named for William Elliot Lee, a land dealer, who was the original owner of land that included what is now Lee County. It is located in southeastern Iowa and both Fort Madison and Keokuk are county seats.[3]

The office of the Recorder is located in the Fort Madison courthouse and historical record books are housed in the Keokuk Courthouse.[4].
