A link from one page of the Family Search Wiki to another page of the Family Search Wiki[edit | edit source]
How to create an internal link[edit | edit source]
- Using the "Rich Editor", see Help:Create an Internal Link:
- Using Wikitext, do the following:
- Type double square brackets [[
- Then type the name of the article you want to link to, without leaving any space. This is the title of the actual article you want the link to go to.
- If you want the link text to read differently from the actual article title, type the pipe symbol | and then type the text that you want to appear as the link. This step is optional.
- Finally type double square brackets ]] without leaving any space between the text and brackets.
Tip: To enter the pipe symbol (|), hold the "Shift" key down and then press the \ (the shift and the backslash keys).

External Links[edit | edit source]
A link from a page in the Family Search Wiki to a website on the Internet[edit | edit source]
How to create an external link[edit | edit source]
- Using the "Rich Editor" see Create an external link.
- Using Wikitext, do the following:
- If you want the URL or web address visible on the page, type or paste it onto the page. Remember, the URL must begin with "http://" or "https://". This is not good editing practice. Instead, use the following steps to create link text different from the URL.
- Type a single right-facing square bracket [
- Type or paste the URL immediately after the single square bracket, without leaving a space. Remember, the URL must begin with "http://" or "https://" and include the actual path to the website wanted.
- Then type one space and the link text.
- Next type a single, left-facing square bracket ] without leaving a space.

Category Links[edit | edit source]
[[:Category:NAME]] This creates a link to a category. Be sure to use a leading colon before the category name, otherwise it will add the current page to the category. [[:Category:NAME|DISPLAY TEXT]] This changes the display text, write the text inside the link tag after a pipe.
Redirected categories must also use the colon, otherwise they will be added to the category instead of redirecting.
Language Links[edit | edit source]
Links to other language versions of this wiki can be created using the {{H-langs}} template. The following example shows multiple links to various languages
