Edmonton Alberta Riverbend Family History Centre serves the city of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the surrounding area.

We are a free non-profit organization, run by volunteers.

Tuesdays 1:00 - 3:00 PM.
Wednesdays 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.

If the weather channel report for Edmonton gives a temperature of -25 C, or lower, including the wind chill or
if there is a travel advisory out recommending that people not drive due to poor road conditions, the Family History Center will be closed that day.

If the weather becomes worse during the day, please call the Family History Center (780-436-0136) before you come to be sure we are open.

The computers here have the Family History Center Portal page which gives FREE access to Premium Family History Websites. Including access to:

  • FamilySearch Catalog: This center may have various microfilm from the FamilySearch Catalog.
  • NEW - Digital Book Scanner!
  • We also have microfilms/ microfiche on long term loan that can be viewed if not in use.

  • Take the 53 Ave Exit from Whitemud Drive, and come about one block east.
  • We are in the large brick church on the south side of 53 Ave. The northern entrance on the east side of the building will be unlocked when the FHC is open. There is plenty of free parking.

Hardware and Equipment

We have 5 computers and 1 printer / scanner on the wi-fi network, 2 Microfilm readers, 1 Microfiche reader and 1 Digital Book Scanner.[edit | edit source]
Patrons may use their laptops on our wi-fi network, but only the center's computers will have free access to the subscription-based websites.[edit | edit source]

Resources in the Local Area[edit | edit source]

The Provincial Archives of Alberta has most of the local histories for Alberta, which include biographies of families, as well as a computer database of people who lived and died in Alberta. They also have history books and an extensive microfilm library.

Edmonton Public Library has extensive holdings as well. The Stanley A. Milner Library has a genealogy room. There are 17 EPL branches distributed throughout the city. Patrons have access to Ancestry.com's Library Edition and also HeritageQuest Online (on their library catalog computers).
