Family Discovery Experience

Your Family is Invited to Join us in Family Discovery Experiences at the Family History Center

Objective: To support families in a fun way to find – take – teach.

These are exciting times for family history centers. More than ever before, family history centers support family history efforts that begin in the home. Centers have an important role in helping people find a name, prepare it for temple ordinances, and teach family members to do the same. Many centers are breaking down old stereotypes and creating fun, heart-turning activities that engage families, particularly youth, as they discover their ancestors and share living memories. We call these family-oriented activities “discovery experiences”. These new experiences attract families and youth to come to the Family History Center.

In preparation for you and your family to visit the Center, you will be asked to plan your evening by filling out a simple form to email back to us 1 week prior to your visit. This will assist us in assisting you and your family to achieve your desired goals.

Below is a list of discovery activities:

  1. Photo Scan
  2. Document Scan
  3. Slide or Negative Scan
  4. Recording Family Stories
  5. Migration of Ancestors
  6. Meaning of Your Name
  7. Happenings of Birth Year
  8. Microfilm Use
  9. FamilySearch Partners
  10. Am I Related to a Prophet?
  11. FamilySearch Tutorial

  13. If you desire to record stories, scan & copy photos or documents,
PLEASE BRING WITH YOU a thumb drive or SD card (at least 2GB) for storing your memories. Younger children (2-5 years old) may also attend with your family and will learn about the pioneer lifestyle through games, toys, and other activities. The Member Account Login is very important! Please sign into or another Church account site to make sure the user name and password are working for each family member (age 8 and older) who will be attending.

In October General Conference 2011 Elder David A. Bednar promised our youth,
“As you respond in faith to this invitation, your hearts shall turn to the fathers. The promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will be implanted in your hearts…. Your testimony of and conversion to the Savior will become deep and abiding. And I promise you will be protected against the intensifying influence of the adversary. As you participate in and love this holy work, you will be safeguarded in your youth and throughout your lives.”
