Description[edit | edit source]
The County was named for the word calumet, the French name for the ceremonial pipes used by Native Americans in councils on the east shore of Lake Winnebago. The County is located in the east area of the state.[2]

Register of Deeds has birth records from 1851, marriage records from 1846, divorce records from 1866 and land records from 1840.
Clerk of the Circuit Court has divorce records from 1880 and court records from 1877.

- Appleton Public Library Obituary Index: Appleton is situated on the Fox River, in Outagamie, Calument and Winnebago counties.
- Partial index to obituaries and death notices published in Appleton newspapers. There are complete records for 1853-71; 1874; 1920-22; 1939-42; 1944; 1948-52; 1958-1960; 1970; 1980; 1981; 1992-94, and January 1, 2001 to December 6, 2011. Tax Records[edit | edit source]
Wisconsin tax records complement land records and can be used to supplement the years between censuses. Because only persons who owned property or other items that could be taxed were listed, some residents were not included in tax lists. There may also be gaps of several years in the tax records. Vital records consist of birth, death, marriage and divorce records. Most counties started keeping records in the 1870s. In 1907, the counties began sending copies to the state.
