James Amasa Little was born at Aurelius, Cayuga County, New York, 14 September 1822, the son of James (ca. 1790-1822) and Susannah Young Little. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1849 in St. Louis, Missouri, and migrated to Utah that year. He married Mary Jane Lytle (1831-1921) 16 Dec. 1849. They lived in Parawan and Cedar City until 1854 when James was called on a mission to Europe. He returned home in 1857. He married 2) Annie Matilda Baldwin (1839-1906) 21 Dec. 1858. They had nine children. He married 3) Mary Elizabeth Tullidge (1832- 1914) 19 Nov. 1864. In 1871 he took his three wives and twenty children to Kanab, Utah, and was later called on two more missions. He and his second wife moved to Colonia Diaz, Mexico, in 1890. After her death in 1906, he returned to Utah, and lived in Kanab until his death in 1908.
