George Thomas Smith (1887-1970), son of Samuel Patterson Smith and Ida Amelia Woodward, was born in Browns Valley, Traverse Co., Minnesota. He married 1914 Gertrude Estelle Bartlett (1892-1954), daughter of Eugene Charles Bartlett born in Seneca Co.,N.Y. and his second wife, Clara Emmaline Pryer born in Washtenaw Co., Michigan. The early Bartlett ancestors came from Wedmore Parish in Somerset Co., England. They immigrated to Ontario Co., N.Y. in the 1850s and later settled in Washtenaw Co., Michigan. Some other family members immigrated to America from Scotland and England as early as in the 1600s.
