Notes

"First limited edition; limited to 500 sets; this is copy #124"-- (Verso of t.p.).

This work traces the origin and history of the Bellew or Ballew family, with a goodly portion of this ancestry in Great Britain, and an even larger portion involving the nobility. Only a small portion of the later progeny lived in various parts of the United States. "Thousands of pedigrees originating in Great Britain and Europe are arranged chronologically covering a span of more than 1500 years. This multi-volume work traces ancestral lines originating in Europe, giving obscure lineages, historical and biographical data; many dating back to the Conquest. Most of her [i.e. the author's] material was collected in Europe from old documents unavailable in the United States. Many of the family lines encompass records from parishes and official registers of ancestors before immigrating to the Colonies ... Among the rare and important records is an extensive history of the Washington family. This history includes the origin and lineage of related families dating from the fourth century. Also included in this work are the pre-Conquest Anglo Saxon ancestors of the Lee family."--(Preface, p. ix, v. 1).

Contents: v. 1. Vikings, Anglo Saxons, Flanders, Germany, Saxony, France -- v. 2. Burgundy, Italy, Brittany, Washington (Baynard), Wales, Scotland, Normandy -- v. 3. Norman line, Baladon, Balun, Bellew.

Vol. 3 includes index for the set (listing Bellew, Ballew, Ballou, Ballow, Ballowe and other variant spellings).
