Mark Anthony Stewart was born in 1958 at Orange, California, the son of Paul and Merle Louise Denton Stewart. Paul Stewart was born in 1934 in Knox County, Indiana, the son of Lercy "Roy" Stewart (b. 1901) and Ruby Izora "Leona" Gilbert Stewart (1904-1980). He married Merle Louis Denton in 1956 at Monroe City, Indiana. She was born in 1936 in Pike County, Indiana, the daughter of Raymond Alford Denton (b. 1912) and Mildred Marie Keeton Denton (b. 1917).

Ancestors include: John Wesley Stewart (1798-after 1860 of North Carolina and Washington County, Indiana); Joshua Gilbert (1794- after 1860 of North Carolina and Knox County, Indiana); Alford Denton (1827-1882 of Kentucky); and John Thomas Keeton (1837-1915 of Kentucky and Pike County, Indiana).
