Ancestral families of Major Wells Laflin Field III, USMC (b. 1930) and Tabitha Field Ballard (b. 1932), children of Captain Wells Laflin and Edith Duncan Field. Wells Laflin Field, Jr., was born in 1902 at Bennington, Vermont, the son of Rear Admiral Wells Laflin Field (1846-1914) and Ruth Dunning Clark Field (1894-1959). He married Edith Duncan in 1928 at Pelham Manor, New York. She was born in 1900 at Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Dr. Louis and Edith Smith McKee Duncan. He served thirty years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1953.

Ancestors include Zachariah Field (b. ca. 1596) of England; Hartford, Connecticut; and Northampton, Massachusetts; Dr. Comfort Starr (ca. 1595-1658) of Cranbrook, Kent, England, and Boston, Massachusetts; Charles Laflin (ca. 1700-1762) of Westfirld, Massachusetts; Thomas Dickinson (d. 1662) of Yarmouth, England, and Rowley, Massachusetts; William Dudley (ca. 1610-1683/4) of Dorking, England, and Guildord, Connecticut; and Lieutenant Samuel Eldredge (ca. 1620-1697) of England and Kingston, Rhode Island.
