William Abel (1776-1850) was convicted at 14-1/2 years of age, and transported within six months in 1791 from England to Port Jackson, New South Wales, Australia. Mary Ann Morley (1778/1782-1856) was also transported from England to Port Jackson in 1798. They were both assigned to Norfolk Island, just off the coast of Port Jackson, and there they unofficially married and began their family. Their sentences completed, they were among those moved to New Norfolk in Van Diemen's Land (later Tasmania), where they were officially married in 1811 and received an official land grant in 1813. Descendants and relatives lived in New South Wales, Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia and elsewhere. Also includes genealogical data about the parents and grandparents of William Abel; these ancestors lived in England and spelled the surname Abell. Vol. 2 includes much of the history of the early settlements in Van Diemen's Land (later Tasmania), as well as how this early history involved the Abel and related families.
Include indexes (listing Abell as a variant spelling).
Includes Eddington, Geard, Gill, Gray, Hay, Hudson, Hughes, Morrisby, Murray, Sky, Tate, Teeling, Triffitt, Webster and related families.
Also available on microfilm.
