Oliver Funsten (ca. 1782-1826) emigrated from the northesastern part of Ireland, near Belfast, in the later part of the eighteenth century. He lived for a while in Philadelphia, before settling at White Post, Frederick County (now Clarke County), Virginia. He married Margaret McKay, daughter of Andrew and Jane Ridgway McKay. They had ten children. He died at White Post, Virginia. His son, David Funsten (1819-1866), married Susan Everard Meade, daughter of David and Louisa Washington Nelson Meade, in 1844 at Millwood, Clarke County, Virginia. They had thirteen children, 1846-1864. He died of wounds received in the Civil War. Descendants listed lived in Virginia, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Washington, D.C., Texas, Arizona, California and elsewhere.
