Name Alexander is of Scottish origin, meaning "helpers of men".

Tradition: seven Alexander brothers came to America; Willliam, born 1646, Andrew, born 1648; James born 165_; Francis born 1654; Samuel born 1657, Joseph born 1660 and John born 1662.

Moses Alexander, son of James, died in Cecil county in 1762; his wife was Mary Wallace, born about 1700; married Sarah Taylor.

Daniel Alexander, son of Moses and Sarah, migrated to North Carolina about 1750, married Prudence _____.

William, son of Daniel and Prudence, was born 30 January 1745; married Ester Brown, he died 31 May 1820.
