Ray D. Bellows was born in 1929 in Lake Shore, Utah. His parents were Samuel Arthur Bellows (1903-1950) and Electa Drollinger (1906-1991). He married Dora Lou Pace, daughter of Jesse Byron Pace (1908-1976) and Florence Peterson (1911-1963), in 1954. Traces their ancestors in Utah, Ohio, New Jersey, Massaschusetts, Ontario, Vermont, Connecticut, New York, Virginia, Missouri, Iowa, West Virginia, Tennessee, England, Sweden, Denmark and elsewhere. Descendants and relatives lived in Utah, Arizona and elsewhere.
