James Benson was born in Delaware in 1783. The family migrated from Delaware to Raleigh, North Carolina and, in 1789 to Sevierville, Tennessee. James served in the War of 1812. He is believed to have married at Sevierville, Tennessee. His wife, name not known, was born between 1780-1790. James later moved to Alabama where "He bought 40 acres of land on February 19, 1848. It is recorded at Huntsville, Alabama, as #13876, Section 14, Township 6 South, Range 4 East. This was south and east of the Tennessee River on Pine Island near Preston."--P. 7. Descendants lived in Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Indiana, Oklahoma, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Illinois, California and elsewhere.
