Marriage bonds book, 1767-1861; marriage register, 1861-1900

Notes

The marriage bonds and old marriage register were copied in 1930 into the marriage bonds book, no. 1, 1767-1862, by the Rawley Martin Chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy. In 1942, the old marriage record book 1850-1861 was copied into the marriage bonds book by members of the above chapter, as ordered by the Circuit Court and recorded by the clerk of Circuit Court in the common law order book, no. 29, p. 279.

The dates found in the marriage bonds book actually cover 1767-1861, not 1767-1862.

Marriage bonds book, no. 1, contains a typed copy of marriage bonds and an old marriage register, 1767-1861, arranged chronologically (p. 1-181) and a handwritten copy of a register of marriage licenses, 1850-1861, arranged alphabetically by the first letter of the surname of either groom or bride (p. 183-208). The bonds section gives the date of the bond, names of husband and wife, names of bondsmen, name of the signer of certificate, relationship, and by whom married. The licenses section gives date of license and names of husband and wife.

Marriage register, v. 2, 1861-1900, gives line number, date and place of marriage, full names of the parties (husband and wife), ages, marital status, birthplaces, residences, parents' names, husband's occupation, name of person performing marriage ceremony, and remarks.

Includes indexes at beginning of marriage bonds book for p. 1-181. Includes separate index to marriage register, no. 2, 1861-1900.
