Notes

The commissioner of the revenue registered births and death for the county and then turned his books over to the clerk of the County Court. The clerk made abstracts to send the state auditor and would also preserve the books in his office.

Register of births gives date and place of birth, name of child, race (if "colored and before 1864, says whether free or slave), sex, born alive or dead, father's name (or before 1864 slave owner's name), father's occupation and residence, mother's name, birth defects or other problems at birth, and sources of information.

Register of deaths gives name of deceased, race (if "colored" and before 1864, whether free or slave), name of slave owner (before 1864), sex, date and place of death, cause of death, age, parents' names, birthplace, name of spouse if married, occupation, and sources of information. Information is not always complete.

Includes general indexes which gives name, sex, race, dates, book, page, and file no. Volumes are also individually indexed.
