Notes

Vital records were kept by the city clerk under the auspices of the Division of Vital Statistics.

Illegitimate births were not filmed.

Births give name of child, birth date and place, number order in family, sex, color, parents' names and birthplaces, their occupations, ages, name of person making return, date registered, etc. Later birth records give the number of children for mother, legitimacy, multiple or single births, etc. Deaths give the name of deceased, color, sex, age, marital status, date of death, date and place of birth, occupation, parents' names and birthplaces, residence, undertaker's name, cause of death, physician's name, and date registered. Later death certificates give the place of death, date and place of burial, etc.
