Chiefly, a manuscript collection of letters, photographs, pedigree charts, family group sheets, and miscellaneous documents of ancestors and descendants of George McGiffen Wilkie and Sarah Elizabeth Clark Funston Wilkie. The letters were written to and first saved by Sarah Elizabeth Clark Funsten Wilkie during and after the Civil War. Most of these letters are from her husband George McGiffin Wilkie and a few other relatives. George McGiffin Wilkie (ca. 1823-1863) was the son of Samuel Wilkie (Wilkey) (1784-1839) and Mary Ann McGiffin (1805-bef. 1880). On 15 Jan 1846 George married Sarah Elizabeth Clark Funston in Harris Township, St. Joseph, Indiana. Sarah was the daughter of Jesse Funston (1787-1868) and Sarah Templeton (1797-1864). She was born 7 Nov 1825 in Jerseytown, Columbia, Pennsylvania. George was born in Strabane Township, Washington, Pennsylvania ca. 1823. They had four children. George enlisted in the Civil War on 22 Aug 1862 and was mustered in at Camp Franklin at Dubuque, Iowa on 29 Aug 1862 in Company E. The 27th Iowa Infantry was mustered into service on 3 Oct 1862. George died on 15 Jan 1863 at Ft. Pickering, Memphis, Shelby, Tennessee. Sarah died 2 Jun 1873 at Southbend, St. Joseph, Indiana. Descendants lived in Wisconsin, Indiana, Kansas, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and elsewhere.
Includes Wilkie, Wilkey, Funston, Aten, Templeton, Boyd, Metcalf and related families.
Includes a roster of Company E of Iowa 27th Infantry Regiment which was mustered into service on 3 Oct 1862.
