For native (black) population of districts in the Transkei region of Cape Province. Transkei districts: Bizana, Butterworth, Elliotdale, Engcobo, Flagstaff, Glen Grey, Herschel, Idutywa, Kentani, Libode, Lusikisiki, Matatiele, Mount Frere, Mount Ayliff, Mount Fletcher, Mqanduli, Ngqeleni, Nqamakwe, Port St. Johns, Qumbu, St. Marks, Tabankulu, Tsolo, Tsomo, Umtata, Umzimkulu, Willowvale, Xalanga. Arranged (1) alphabetically by surname, though not always in strict alphabetical order (1958-1959); then (2) chronologically by locality (district) (1960). Information provided: (a) certificates - (for both spouses) names, date of marriage, location of marriage, identity numbers, race, age and date of birth, with or without ante-nuptial contract, status, occupation, place of birth, address at the time of marriage, by banns or special marriage license, consent given by, remarks, signatures, names of witnesses, officiator, denomination or magistrate's office; (b) Declaration under Section 22 (3) of the Native Administration Act, 1927 (declaration of monogamous status) - name, residence, names of parents, prospective spouse's name, residence, names of parents, declaration of status, signature, witnesses, date, officiator; (c) affidavits (deceased spouse) - name, residence, name of deceased spouse, place of death, date of death, declaration of no assets, number of surviving children (and number of whom are minors), signature, place and date of swearing, officiator.
