SALT LAKE CITY, UT (5 August 2026)—FamilySearch International invites individuals and families to expand their family history skills through a series of free August webinars. This month’s classes cover innovative research techniques, the preservation of family memories, international ancestry research, and temple and family history work. Whether participants are just beginning their family history journey or are experienced researchers, the webinars offer practical guidance for discovering, preserving, and sharing family connections.
The featured webinar, “How Do I Read That? AI Assistance in Old Records,” explores how emerging technologies can help family historians overcome one of genealogy’s most common challenges: interpreting difficult handwriting in historical documents. Presenter Colette Hokanson will demonstrate how artificial intelligence tools, along with resources like FamilySearch Wiki, can assist researchers in deciphering old records, family letters, and handwritten documents. Participants will learn how these tools can help uncover information that might otherwise remain hidden within difficult-to-read records and can make historical sources more accessible.
Other August webinars address the growing importance of preserving family memories and stories. Participants will learn how technology can help caregivers of dementia patients capture valuable personal histories before the histories are lost, explore strategies for tracing immigrant ancestors who settled in Australia, and discover tips for identifying ancestors through Ancestry.com.
