SRS: 1898 CANOVA MURDER (Baker County, Florida)
On 5 June 1898, George Paul Canova, a prominent resident of Baker County, Florida, and a local leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was ambushed and murdered by anti-Mormon assailants while traveling home from a church meeting. He is considered the first Mormon martyr in the state of Florida.
