Senior Missionary, Young Service Missionary, Senior Service Missionary, or Volunteer
Family history missionaries help enable inspiring journeys that bring joy to all people as they discover, gather, and connect their family—past, present, and future. One way a missionary or volunteer can help with this effort is by serving at one of the 14 Church-operated FamilySearch centers in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, and California. Young Service Missionaries may also serve in Stake-supported FamilySearch Centers.
Missionaries and volunteers serving in Church-operated FamilySearch centers support family and priesthood efforts by doing some of the following tasks:
- Adding more people to the family tree.
- Indexing and using FamilySearch record collections.
- Preserving family memories, including photos, books, videos, and audio files.
- Using the FamilySearch website or the My Family: Stories That Bring Us Together booklet to find the names of ancestors or their descendants.
- Sharing the message and blessing of family history with all guests, including members of the general public.
- Serving family members in the temple by attending the temple themselves or by sharing family names with others.
- Helping individuals and families overcome the common obstacles to beginning family history and receiving the blessings promised for those efforts.
Skills Needed: Missionaries and volunteers serving in Church-operated FamilySearch centers should enjoy working with people of all backgrounds and ages and have a genuine desire to provide exceptional service. Additionally, service missionaries should:
- Have basic computer skills.
- Be enthusiastic about family history work.
- Be familiar with FamilySearch products and services.
- Be flexible and have the ability to learn new programs and adapt to a changing environment.
- Meet the minimum number of service hours required by the individual FamilySearch center or library.
Time Commitment: The minimum number of service hours varies by individual Church-operated FamilySearch center. A commitment of at least one year is required.
