How do I add or remove group administrator rights for a member of an indexing group?

A group administrator can assign another member of the group to be a group administrator. He or she can also remove this role.

In personal groups created by an individual, the group owner has these same privileges.

Assigning a group administrator

Steps

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Get Involved.
  2. In the drop-down menu, click Indexing.
  3. Scroll down to the Groups section.
  4. Click the name of the group.
  5. Click Options.
  6. Click Manage Members.
  7. Find the Group Members section.
  8. Find the person whose role you want to change.
  9. Click the pencil, or edit icon, at the end of the row.
  10. Click the check box for Group Administrator.
  11. Click Apply.

Removing a group administrator

Steps

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Get Involved.
  2. In the drop-down menu, click Indexing.
  3. Scroll down to the Groups section.
  4. Click the name of the group.
  5. Click Options.
  6. Click Manage Members.
  7. Find the section titled Group Administrators.
  8. Find the person whose role you would like to change.
  9. In the column titled Admin Roles, click Group Administrator X.
  10. Confirm that you want to remove this person’s administrator rights. Click Apply.
    • You can also remove a group member’s administrator rights when you go to the Group Member section and click the pencil icon.

Note: Some members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are group administrators as part of their Church callings. Only the ward or stake clerk can remove these rights.
