Most Frequently Asked Questions
How do I create a FamilySearch account?
In the top right of the FamilySearch site select "Sign up." You will need to provide some basic information and a recovery email or mobile number in case you forget your password.
Because we are a non-profit, accounts are free and give you full access to all the resources available on the FamilySearch and RootsTech websites.
Visit the help center for more detailed information on the signup process.

What do you do with my personal information?
Personal and family information you add to FamilySearch is used to help you discover, preserve, and share your family story. It is never sold to other companies. Information about living family is kept private to you, while genealogy details of your deceased ancestors are shared with other researchers in the community Family Tree.
How do I find my username or password?
You can recover a forgotten username or reset a forgotten password for your FamilySearch account on the sign in page.
Below the password field, select the sign in information you are trying to recover. Follow the instructions. You will be asked for whichever recovery option you specified at sign up.
