Why do I get an oauth2 error when signing in?

The Oauth2 error message can happen for several reasons:  

  • You just created your account. 
  • You just changed your password. 
  • The bookmark in your web browser is no longer valid. 

Possible solutions

  • Open a new browser tab and sign in to FamilySearch.org.
  • If you used a bookmark to access FamilySearch, delete the bookmark. Go directly to https://www.familysearch.org and sign in. Create a bookmark.

Steps for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Church members can sometimes work around the problem. Go to the Church website and access Family Tree.

  1. Go to the Church's website.
  2. In the upper right, click Sign In.
  3. Sign in with your username and password.
  4. In the upper right, click the grid of 9 dots.
  5. In the Resources list, click FamilySearch.org.
