Why are some catalog films unindexed?

FamilySearch digitized all microfilms in the Granite Mountain Records Vault. Digitization happened faster than indexers can index them. As a result, not all digitized records have indexes. Most unindexed records are available for patrons to view.

Steps (website)

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch.org. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Search.
  2. Click Catalog.
  3. Search by place, surname, title, author, subject, or keywords.
  4. In the search results, click the item or item category that you want to view.
  5. When you find a record you want to view, scroll down the page to the Film/Digital Notes section, if it is available.
  6. In the Format column, look for a camera icon or a camera icon with a key. The key icon means the item has viewing restrictions. If the camera icon is missing, the item is not available online.
  7. To browse the images, click the camera icon. If restrictions apply to the images, you see a message explaining the restriction.
  8. Thumbnail images appear on the screen.
  9. Double-click an image to enlarge it.
