The FamilySearch home page offers ways to discover your ancestors and share family memories. When you sign in to your FamilySearch Account, personalized opportunities appear on the home page. You may see more or less of these opportunities depending on the size of your family tree and activity on FamilySearch.

Current Home Page Features

Updates will soon happen that may change the available features and sections. To see a list of upcoming changes that will occur, please visit the Upcoming Changes to the Home Page section below.

These features are available on the current home page:

Left side:

  • Create a post: Allows you to add an image from your device or FamilySearch gallery and post it to share with friends and family.
  • Family Feed: Various memories, such as photos, documents, and stories that have been recently added by other users to your family tree.
  • Additional information fields: These may change depending on your location and the time of year. You may see information about various family history opportunities or regional events. Sometimes RootsTech information appears here too.

Right side:

  • Search for an Ancestor: Check for your family in historical records, Family Tree, and more with one powerful search.
  • Record Hints: Links to documents that could mention one of your ancestors. You can review and attach these to Family Tree as sources.
  • To-do List: A tool to help you keep track of any family history assignments or goals you want to complete.
  • Recently Viewed: A list of the people in Family Tree whose records you recently viewed. At the end of this list is an option to add an unconnected person to Family Tree.
  • Add Friends: A quick way to send a link to family and friends to allow them to see your posts and add comments. You also have a quick link to Family Groups.
  • Family Groups: Collaborate with family and friends by creating a family group.
  • FamilySearch Labs: Try out some potential new features and tell us what you think.
  • Free access to Top Sites: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints also receive access to other genealogical sites. FamilySearch provides a link to members on the home page to set up these accounts.

Upcoming Changes to the Home Page

These changes will occur but have not yet been launched. Some users can test out these features by clicking on the Try It link at the top right of the screen. This shows a preview of upcoming changes to the home page.

  • Family Feed is moving: The Family Feed is moving to the Memories tab in the toolbar at the top. Click Memories at the top of the screen, then click Family Feed. The Family Feed also includes the Friends and Family Groups features.
  • Unique widgets for users: Widgets are the sections that make up the new home page. Examples include, Search for an Ancestor, the To-do list, FamilySearch Labs, and more. The type and number of widgets may vary depending on the size of your family tree.
  • Search all collections at once: The Search for an Ancestor section allows you to quickly and easily find out information about your ancestors from all collections on FamilySearch.
  • Recently viewed people and hints are in a new location: These sections will appear in the main feed on the left side of the page. They used to appear on the right side of the page.
  • Your hints are separated into types: Users will see a section on Record Hints. Users who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will also see a section called Temple Hints.
  • Access to top genealogy sites: Church members get free access to top genealogy sites. Another widget, or section, on the home page shows what sites have been signed up for and others to be tried.
