What does "This is a preliminary description" mean in the FamilySearch Catalog?

FamilySearch ensures that the metadata associated with historical record images—such as record types, dates, and localities—is accurate through a thorough review process. However, some images can be published before this review is completed due to publication deadlines.

To alert users that the images have not yet been reviewed, a Preliminary Record Note is attached. Once the review is complete, the note is removed.

The Preliminary Record Note reads:
"This is a preliminary description provided to allow immediate online access. Images have not been reviewed."

If a Catalog entry includes a Preliminary Record note but no camera icon, the records have been digitized. However, FamilySearch cannot publish them due to restrictions on publication rights.
