The new Portrait view in Family Tree is being enhanced to make it easier for you to see and navigate through entire families and multiple family lines at once. Thank you for taking some time to review it.

- Use the Feedback button. The Feedback button, which is located on the left side of the Portrait view, gives you the chance to give us some quick feedback. While the engineering team reads and considers this feedback, you may not get a response.
What is the same in the new portrait view?
The new portrait view has many similarities to the current one.
Orientation: In both versions, the generations are displayed vertically, in portrait mode.
Fonts and colors: The fonts, font sizes, screen colors, and contrast are the same.
Location of buttons and controls: The buttons used to switch between pedigree views, change options, return home, zoom, and so forth remain in the upper-right side of the screen.
Switching spouses: If a person is connected to more than one spouse, the icon and functionality stays the same.
ID numbers: You can click on an ID number to copy it to your computer’s clipboard.
Side sheet: You can still click on a person and see more of their details in a side sheet.
Dark mode: You can still indicate whether you want to display the pedigree in regular or dark mode.
What is new or changed in the new portrait view?
The new portrait view offers several new features that we think you will find useful:
View siblings: In addition to being able to view direct-line ancestors and descendants, you can now click the caret icons next to a person to see siblings and their descendants.
Open more family lines at a time: On the new portrait view, you can expand multiple family lines and keep them open.
Number of generations shown: When you first open the portrait view, the same number of generations is shown, but you may need to scroll to see all of them. If this bothers you, click the Zoom Out button in the upper-right until you can see everything at the size you want.
Plus sign: Each person’s tile now has a + icon. Click it for a quick way to add new people to the family.
Switching parents: A person who is connected to multiple parents will have an indicator above the tile.
Round icons on the tiles instead of squares: The indicators, such as for record hints, are the same colors as they used to be. They are now round instead of square. Click the Options button (
) to see what they look like and select the ones you want to show.
A note about portrait photos
The name “portrait” view refers to the vertical orientation of the information. (It’s in portrait mode.) The word "portrait" does not refer to portrait photos. In addition to being able to display portrait photos on the portrait view, you can also display them on the landscape, descendancy, and first ancestor views.
If portrait photos are not displayed: If you display the portrait view and do not see the portrait pictures, click Options button (
), and click the Portraits slider to turn it on.
Pedigree options are “sticky”
When you change options on one view screen, the same options are used if you switch to a different view screen. For example, if you turn portrait photos off in the landscape view, they will remain off when you switch to the portrait view. You can turn them on and off as desired.
Differences in how portrait pictures are displayed on the view screens
In the portrait view, if you turn the portrait photos off, the portrait photos are replaced with generic silhouettes.
If you turn off portrait photos on the landscape and descendancy pedigree, neither the portrait photos nor the silhouettes are displayed.
