Sophos protection updating failed error

Share

Sophos automatically updates when you sign in to the computer. If you use drive protection software, updates happen when the computer is put into maintenance mode and the user signs in. To check the status of Sophos, use the following steps.

  1. In the task tray, right-click the Sophos icon.
  2. Click Open Sophos Antivirus.
  3. View the virus definition date next to the field Last updated.

If the Sophos antivirus shield icon in the system tray (lower right corner of the screen, by the clock) has a red circle with a white x in it, and if it says Sophos protection updating failed, right-click the Sophos shield icon, and click Update now

If Sophos still does not update, try a reinstall from https://familysearch.org/remote/support.html with the Sophos Latest Version link.

If the problem continues, be sure you have a good connection to the internet (open a browser, and try to open FamilySearch or another website).

If your internet connection works, please contact FamilySearch Support.

If your internet connection does not work, try the following work-around:
Sophos creates a virtual NIC (Network Interface Card). Uninstall both the virtual NIC and any other NICs. Then restart the machine. The machine picks up the normal onboard NIC at that point, which restores network connectivity. If you need assistance with this work-around, please contact FamilySearch Support.

If Sophos does not update due to blocked ports, contact FamilySearch Support
