The problems below indicate you need to reinstall Sophos on a FamilySearch center computer.
- Most options in the Sophos Antivirus menus or the Sophos firewall options are grayed out and unavailable.
- You see the error "Sophos Endpoint Security and Control. You do not have sufficient privileges to run the Sophos Endpoint Security and Control main application."
- Unable to delete a quarantined file in Sophos.
The most common cause for this is a permissions problem with the administrator account. To solve this problem, add the administrator account (or other relevant account) to the SophosAdministrator group, and restart the computer.
To add an account to a group, use the instructions below (instructions below are for Vista, but you take similar steps in XP):
- Open Microsoft Management Console: Click the Start button, type mmc into the Search box (in XP, click Run, and then enter MMC), and then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.
In the left pane of the Microsoft Management Console, click Local Users and Groups. If you do not see Local Users and Groups, it is probably because that snap-in has not been added to the Microsoft Management Console. Use the steps below to install it:
- In the Microsoft Management Console, click the File menu, and then click Add or Remove Snap-in.
- Click Local Users and Groups, and then click Add.
- Click Local computer, and then click Finish.
- Click OK.
- Double-click the Groups folder.
- Right-click the group you want to add the user account to, and then click Add to Group.
- Click Add, and then type the name of the user account (or click Advanced and then Find Now to see a list of available user accounts on the system).
- Click Check Names, and then click OK.
(Instructions above are from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Add-a-user-account-to-a-group and slightly modified to include additional helpful information.)
Another option you can try is to go to the C:\program files\sophos\autoupdate\config folder. You can edit the corresponding .cfg file to allow local access by changing the 0 to a 1 next to Allow Local Access and saving the file. This requires that you do the previous instruction of adding the admin account to the SophosAdmin group first.
