Name Change from Family History Center to FamilySearch Center

Share

The term Family History centers will officially be changed to FamilySearch centers worldwide, and the Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, will also be changed to FamilySearch Library. Please note that it will be the only location with library in its name. The official launch of this new name change is set for January 17, 2023

The name change to FamilySearch centers is intended to refresh Family History centers and make them a welcoming place to all and to unite the FamilySearch brand worldwide. Additionally, the updated names will reflect a center's direct affiliation with FamilySearch, which will make clear their unified efforts to help people find their ancestors.

This change will not affect any processes at affiliate libraries. These libraries will still offer access to FamilySearch premium content that is not accessible from a home computer.

Although the name of these centers will change, the same free services will be available at FamilySearch centers as were available before the name change. Guests can bring laptops or Chromebooks and utilize the free premium sites not just at FamilySearch centers, but also at any Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints church building worldwide.
