Errors
A Photoconductor (PC) Life Warning or an 84–PC Kit life message indicates that the photoconductor unit is near the end of its functional life. We suggest that you replace the photoconductor unit. Or you can order the replacement and keep it in stock. Then, press the button to clear the message, and continue to use the printer.
A Photoconductor Exhausted or an 84–Replace PC Kit message indicates that you must replace the photoconductor unit. Important: The printer no longer works when this message appears. You must replace the photoconductor unit and reset the photoconductor page count.
Overview
Reset the photoconductor page count anytime you replace the photoconductor unit. Otherwise, the printer does not register the replacement. The printer continues to display an 84–PC Kit life or a Photoconductor (PC) Life Warning message. In addition, when the unreset photoconductor page count reaches a certain point, the printer no longer prints. You see the 84–Replace PC Kit or Photoconductor Exhausted message.

Reset the photoconductor page count
Important: Reset the photoconductor page count only when you install a new photoconductor kit. If you reset the page count but do not replace the photoconductor kit, the photoconductor operates beyond its intended life. Not replacing the photoconductor creates print quality issues or can damage the printer.
- After you install the new PC unit and restart the machine, leave the printer on, and open the front cover.
- With the front cover open, tap and hold the stop or cancel button.
- Watch the screen. When you see the message "Resetting PC Counter," let go of the button.
- Close the front cover.
If you want to confirm that the photoconductor page count reset, print a menu settings page.
- With the printer at the Ready state, tap Menu.
- Tap Reports.
- Tap Menu Settings Page.
- Look for an entry called PC Kit. If the counter is reset correctly, the PC Kit reads as OK.
Alternate method
If you press the stop or cancel button, but it does not reset the photoconductor page count, use these steps to enter the Configuration menu and reset the counter there.
- Turn off the printer.
- With the printer off, tap and hold the buttons 2 and 6.
- Turn on the printer while you hold 2 and 6. Let go of the buttons after 10 seconds.
- When you see the Configuration menu, tap Reset PC Cnt, and then tap Yes.
- After reset, tap Exit Config Menu.
- If the photoconductor warning messages continue to appear, please contact Lexmark Technical Support or your local support for additional assistance.
