Can we move microfilm or microfiche to a different FamilySearch center?

General information

FamilySearch can permit centers to move microfilms and microfiche from a FamilySearch center to a different center. If you want approval to move microfilms or microfiche that you ordered into a given center or library, please contact FamilySearch. In your request, please provide complete information:

  • Your name and contact information.
  • How many films you want to move and the film numbers.
  • The name of the FamilySearch center or library that currently houses the films. The name of the center where you want to send the films.
  • The reason you want to move the films.

FamilySearch evaluates each situation and notifies you of the decision as quickly as possible. If they approve the move, they ask you to pay the expense of mailing the films to the new location.

Approval scenarios

Under these circumstance, FamilySearch typically approves a move for films.

  • You ordered the film into a center and then moved away and want the films to move to a new center.
  • A center wants to remove the entire film collection from the center. They want to move the films to another FamilySearch center so guests can still use them.

We rarely approve a request to move films for someone other than the person who placed the order or a center that wants to remove their film collection. The person who ordered the film always has the right to ask that it remain in the current location.
