In Historical Records, the search results do not match my search terms

When you search Historical Records, the search results can include information that does not exactly match your search terms. The results are in relevance order. The best matches appear first. Partial matches appear later.

If you do not see how a record on the search results matches what you searched for, consider the following:

  • The search results include the name as you entered it and common variations and nicknames.
  • The results include records from the place one level higher than the one you entered.

If you do not find what you need, modify your search terms:

  • Use the fields on the right side and modify your search. You often get better search results as you remove some search terms.
  • Try your search with and without the exact match option.
  • Narrow results with the filters above the search results.
