How do I take a screenshot to post in FamilySearch Community?

Windows 10 or 11

  1. Open the page that you want to capture a screenshot.
  2. In the lower left of your keyboard, press the Windows icon.
  3. Type snipping tool and press Enter.
  4. When the application window opens, click New.
  5. Use your mouse (now displayed as a + or cross-hair pointer) and drag the box around the area you want to capture.
  6. Click the Save icon.
  7. Type a filename, and choose where to save the file.

MAC computers

  • To capture the entire screen, press Command (⌘) +Shift+3. The computer saves the screenshot to the desktop.
  • To capture part of the screen, press Command (⌘) +Shift+4, and then drag the crosshair pointer to select the area you want to save. Hold Shift, Option, or the Spacebar while you drag to resize or move the selection area. To cancel, press Escape (esc) before you release the mouse button.
  • To capture a specific window, press Command (⌘) +Shift+4, the press the Spacebar. To highlight the area, move the camera pointer over the window, and then click.

iOS mobile devices with home button

  1. Open the screen that you want to capture.
  2. Press the Lock (or power) button and the Home Screen button at the same time.
    1. If your device lacks a Home Screen button, press the volume button and Lock (or power) button at the same time.
  3. The device saves the screenshot with your photos.

Android mobile devices

If your device has no physical Home button, use these steps:

  1. Open the screen that you want to capture.
  2. Press and hold the Lock (or power) button and the Volume down button at the same time.
  3. The device saves the screenshot in your photos or your gallery, depending on the device.

Send a screenshot to FamilySearch Community

  1. Create a message or question in FamilySearch Community.
  2. In the lower left of the box where you type your message, click the photo icon.
  3. Find and double-click your screenshot.
  4. Finish your post and click Ask Question or Save or Post /discussion.
