How do I resolve sign in and recovery issues with provider-only accounts?

Share

FamilySearch users can create a provider-only account using another provider, such as Apple, Facebook, or Google. If you have issues signing in to a provider-only account, or if you have issues recovering a username or password for a provider-only account, receive help by doing one of the following:

Option 1: Contact the provider (Apple, Facebook, or Google) for help.
Option 2: Contact FamilySearch Support and use an email address or mobile phone number to set a FamilySearch password.

Note: Church account users with sign in issues (not associated with any other provider-only accounts) should contact the Global Services Department for assistance. Church account users in the United States and Canada, call toll-free 1-855-537-4357. Church account users outside the United States and Canada, call 1-801-240-4357.

If you do not have a verified email address or mobile phone number on the provider-only account, contact FamilySearch Support to add one.
If you have a verified email address or mobile phone number on the provider-only account, click the Forgot username or password hyperlink on the FamilySearch.org sign-in screen. Then, follow the instructions below for the appropriate option.

  2. Go to your email account.
  3. Locate the Account Recovery Request email.
  4. Make note of the username included in the email.
  5. Click the username hyperlink.
  6. On the Reset Password screen, enter a new valid password.
  7. Click Reset Password.

Verified Mobile Phone Number

  1. Select the mobile number option.
  2. Enter your mobile phone number.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Make note of the username.
  5. Retrieve the code sent to your mobile phone number.
  6. Enter the code in the Recovery Code box.
  7. Click OK.
  8. On the Reset Password screen, enter a new valid password.

You may now sign in with your FamilySearch username and password or with your provider account.
Note: When you add a FamilySearch password to the provider-only account, it automatically changes to a Linked to Provider account.
