Type names as they appear on the document. Do not correct misspellings or expand abbreviations unless the project instructions direct otherwise.
Sometimes the record does not include a person's given name. For example, the given name of a deceased child could show as “stillborn,” "baby," "child," or "son of [parent's name]." Do not index these terms or phrases in the Given Names field.
Sometimes you can find names in more than 1 place in a document. Type the most complete version of the name in the indexing field. If you cannot determine whether a name is a given name or a surname, type it in the Given Names field.
