Sometimes Family Tree does not provide a field for the type of information you want to add to a person. In these situations, you can add a custom event or fact.
Examples of custom events or facts that can be added are:
- Education
- Obituary
- Accomplishments
- Major Illnesses
Steps (website)
- At the top of the page, click Family Tree and then Tree.
- Find and click the person in your tree. A side panel opens up.
- In the side panel, scroll down to the Events or Facts section.
- Click Add Event or Add Fact.
- Scroll down in the list until you find Custom Event or Custom Fact.
- To add information that includes a date and place, click Custom Event.
- To add information that does not include a date and place, click Custom Fact.
- Enter the information about the custom event or fact.
- Write a clear explanation of how you know the information is correct.
- Click Save.
- If you have a source, you can attach it to the event or fact to show that the information is correct. For more information on attaching sources to events or facts, view this article.
Note: You can also add custom events or facts from the Person page by clicking the Details tab, then scrolling down to the Other Information section.
Steps (mobile app)
- In the Family Tree mobile app, navigate to the Person page for the individual.
- Select the Details tab.
- In the lower right, tap the circle with + .
- Under Add Other Information, tap Custom Event. (Custom Fact is not available on the mobile app.)
- Enter information.
- Include a clear explanation of how you know the information is correct.
- Tap Save.
