Hardware problems with FamilySearch center computers

Share

Mouse Issues

Replace the mouse with a mouse from another computer that works. If the other mouse works on the same computer, purchase a new mouse.

DVD Drive Issues

Replace the DVD drive with a DVD drive from another computer that works. If the replaced DVD drive works on the original computer, purchase a new DVD drive.

Network Issues

If your network cable does not work, replace network cables with cables that you know work. You can also replace switches or run lines directly from the router and, by process of elimination, find the problem. Replacement of switches is especially helpful when wireless works but the cable network does not.

Note: Computers using the Windows 7 operating system will not be able to connect to the church internet connection.

General Issues

You can reimage or reinstall all software to try to resolve the problem.

If the problems continue, the computer could have a physical hardware issue. If the computer is less than three years old, it is under warranty with Lenovo, Dell, or other companies. Contact the company directly. If the computer is over 3 years old, you can try these options:

  • If you know what is broken and stake leaders approve replacement expenses, replace the part. Contact the stake clerk for reimbursement from the FamilySearch center budget. (While you cannot purchase computers with local funds, you can purchase any peripherals or components you need with local funds.)
  • Contact your area adviser, and ask if your FamilySearch center is due for a computer replacement.

For any hardware problems in a Church meetinghouse, but not in FamilySearch centers, please contact your local Facility Management group.
