FamilySearch Memories Outage - November 2021

First, we want to apologize again for any inconvenience caused by the brief systems outage in our Memories service on November 18 and 19 of 2021.

This article provides steps to get your Memories back online so they can be enjoyed for generations.

What you can do

The only way to recover what was lost is to re-upload or re-create it. We've created an album that contains all of your Memories that were affected in the outage.

Some good news

While the actual item that was uploaded (for example, a photo) was lost, information you added in the title or description fields was preserved. The filename for photos was also preserved.

Follow these instructions to view the affected Memories and recover any text you may have added.

Instructions

  1. Follow the link you received in the outage email or notification to See Affected Memories. This will open a Memories album titled "November 18-19, 2021."
  2. Select the Bookmark option at the top of the album. It will then appear in your Gallery under Bookmarks. This makes it so you can easily get back to the album. (To bookmark albums you will need to be logged in to FamilySearch.)
  3. Re-upload any photos or documents that were lost, and re-create any stories. Save them to your Gallery or to a new album. Copy and paste any titles or descriptions you may have added previously. In some cases you may be able to see the filename as a reference of what was uploaded.
  4. Delete the now duplicate, affected Memory item.
  5. Once you have deleted all the affected Memory items, remove the bookmarked album. It will disappear from your Gallery.

Our support center has more information on removing Memories items.
