Important notes
All computers provided by the Family History Department to a FamilySearch center are under manufacturer warranty for at least 3 years. To find out if the computer is still under warranty, call the manufacturer. The manufacturer can use the serial number or service tab to determine the warranty period.
Instructions for Dell
Use these steps to check the warranty of any Dell computer.
- Go to the Dell website at www.dell.com.
- In the Search box, type: check warranty status
- Click the Support and Help tab.
- Click Check Warranty Status.
- Click Find My Service Tag. To allow an ActiveX control to scan your computer for the service tag, click Agree.
- If prompted, click Continue.
- Enter the service tag number. Click Continue.
You receive the warranty status of the computer and all other information Dell has about it, such as original configuration and similar information.
Instructions for HP (Hewlett-Packard)
Call HP Compaq Support at 1-800-474-6836. The caller needs the information listed below.
- FamilySearch center unit number and telephone number
- Serial number on the computer
- Part number on the computer
- Type of computer
Use the responses below for the telephone automated questions:
- For the first question, say PC Desktop.
- For the second question, say EVO.
When the HP agent comes on the line, ask if the computer is under warranty.
