FamilySearch is working with a third-party company to digitize the many thousands of microfiche. The process is slower than digitization of microfilm for a couple of reasons:
- The microfiche must be shipped to the third party for digitization.
- Digitizing microfiche is more labor-intensive than digitizing microfilm.
FamilySearch hopes to finish microfiche digitization in 2024. All of the digitized microfiche content will be released at the same time. Not all of the digitized content will be viewable online because of contract restrictions.
