How do I delete alternate names from a person in Family Tree?

In Family Tree, you can delete alternate names that are duplicates or close variations of each other:

  • Exact duplicates of the name in the Vital Information section.
  • Exact duplicates of other alternate names in the Other Information section.
  • Names with capitalization differences, such as the last name in all capital letters.
  • Names with punctuation differences, such as a period after an initial.
  • Names that are incorrect, such as a name with the right last name but the wrong first name.
  • Names that do not apply to the person.

Steps (website)

  1. Navigate to the Person page of the individual.
  2. Scroll down to the Other Information section.
  3. Click the Edit icon beside the name that you want to remove.
  4. Scroll down, and click Delete Alternate Name.
  5. Enter a reason.
  6. Click Delete Alternate Name.

Steps (mobile Family Tree app}

  1. Navigate to the Details page of the individual. 
  2. In the Details, find Other or Other Information.
  3. Tap the name that you want to delete.
  4. Tap Delete or Delete Birth Name.
  5. Enter a reason, and tap Delete.

Steps (Family Tree Lite)

Family Tree Lite only allows you to edit the name in the Vitals section. 

  1. Navigate to the Person page of the individual.
  2. Tap the name.
  3. Tap Edit.
  4. Enter the information, and tap Save.
